AMON AMARTH (SWEDEN)
Hailing from Tumba, a suburb of Stockholm, AMON AMARTH, titled after the Mount
Doom of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, trace their roots back to
1992, formatively taking the title SCUM. Once SCUM folded, the musicians
regrouped as AMON AMARTH. At this stage the band involved Johan Hegg, guitarists
Olavi Mikkonen and Anders Hansson, with Nico Kaukinen on drums. The unit's first
available recording was to have been 1993's 'Thor Arise' demo, constructed at
Lagret Studio. It contained these songs: Risen From the Sea, Atrocious Humanity,
Army of Darkness, Thor Arise and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. It was to be a full year before second demo, 1994's
'The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter', made it onto the tape trading scene leading
to a deal with Singapore based label Pulverised Records.
